I wasn’t at Shopify’s conference in Toronto, so I found out about the award from a photo posted on X. One of the trophies had the name of my app on it. That was how I learned Shopify had selected Platmart Color Swatches as one of the Top 25 Built for Shopify apps of 2025.
I didn’t know this recognition was coming. I had never seen Shopify give out this kind of Built for Shopify award before, so I didn’t even know it was something I could work toward. With more than 10,000 apps in the Shopify App Store, I never expected mine to be picked as one of the best. It was a wonderful surprise.
Later that summer, Shopify shipped the trophy to me in Spain, and I shared the news on X:
Platmart Color Swatches has a simple purpose: it links related products with visual swatches, helping shoppers explore all the available options. The idea is simple, and I’ve always wanted the app itself to stay simple too.
I’ve redesigned the app several times as Shopify’s own admin design language has evolved. My goal has always been to make Platmart Color Swatches feel like a native part of Shopify, rather than a separate tool with an unfamiliar interface.
That also affects which features I add. Every new setting makes the app a little harder to understand, so I try to add only what is useful. Merchants already have enough complexity in their work. Setting up swatches should be the easy part.
Storefront performance has been important to me from the beginning as well. Platmart Color Swatches is built on Shopify’s own infrastructure, using theme app extensions and metafields. The widget reads its data directly from Shopify instead of making a request to our servers every time someone visits a product page. That helps the swatches load quickly and stay reliable during busy periods.
This recognition means a lot to me because Shopify noticed the same things I’ve cared about from the beginning: a simple experience for merchants, a fast storefront, and an app that feels at home inside Shopify. It also shows that Shopify values apps that take the merchant experience seriously.
The award gave me a burst of energy to keep working on Platmart Color Swatches. The app will continue to grow, but I want it to remain simple, predictable, and easy to use.
