Create a product group
A product group links separate Shopify products together and shows a row of swatches on each one. This walks through building a group by hand, the right starting point when you have a handful of products to link.
Prefer to watch it instead? The whole flow in under two minutes:
For large catalogs, CSV import and automations build groups in bulk instead. The fields are the same either way.
Create the group
Section titled “Create the group”- Open Color Swatches and go to Product groups.
- Click Create group.
- In Title, name the group. This is for your reference only, so call it whatever helps you find it, like
Classic Tee. - In Option name, enter the label shoppers see above the swatches, like
ColororStyle.
Add products
Section titled “Add products”- Use the Search products field or click Browse to open the product picker.
- Select every product that belongs in the group, one product per color or variation.
- Each product you add becomes a row where you set its swatch.
Give each product a swatch
Section titled “Give each product a swatch”For each product in the group, choose a swatch type and fill in what it needs:
- A solid color needs a hex value, a custom image needs an upload, a pill needs a name. See swatch types for the full list and when to use each.
- Enter a swatch name for each (like
Black,Forest Green). Names power tooltips and keep things clear.
Click Save. The app writes the group to your products’ metafields, and swatches appear on each product page within a few minutes.
Open one of the products on your storefront to check. If swatches don’t show, work through Troubleshooting.
Where to go next
Section titled “Where to go next”- One product, several attributes (Color and Style): use multi-option groups.
- Group products automatically from collections or metafields: set up an automation.
- Filter collections by color: turn on collection filters.
